Christ is Risen!

This morning I felt so sad. The Easter Vigil last night lacked joy and in the morning my heart ached for a friend who has gone away from me. Easter — the empty tomb. Then I phoned my mum, who is not a liturgy geek, and said: “Happy Easter!” She said: “Christ is Risen!” I was surprised she remembered and used the liturgical greeting! Mum didn’t know I was sad and it was like the angels delivering the message of hope — “He is Risen Indeed!”

Easter is not all chocolate and daffodils. Often it is the loss, bewilderment, and pain of the empty tomb but there in the emptiness, lies our hope and our salvation.

“Easter is occurring in us. In the Spirit, we are called by Abba to move in union with Jesus Christ away from whatever entombs us and towards greater personal wholeness. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). — Robert A. Krieg
