Perhaps we each have a precious and fragile vase that we have cherished, moved with care, protected with bubble wrap, and displayed with pride for most of our adult lives. It is a gift that we received and it has become part of who we are. It comes from God.


And then one day, to receive God more fully, to transcend God’s gift, we are asked to pick up the vase and with abandon smash it on the cold smooth polished concrete floor.
