Come, sit in this chair—reclaim the power of the Spirit

Temptation is neither a sin nor a sign that we are bad. Just look at today’s Gospel. Jesus was baptised and received the Holy Spirit. Next, that same Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness where he faced temptation! The devil wants our souls so temptation is a challenge of the Christian life. But in baptism we have been claimed for Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit to serve God alone. In the Gospel, the devil offered Jesus power to build himself up and to serve his own interests. When we give in to temptation, we actually give our power away. Through our baptism our power is in God and we demonstrate its strength by living in service to others. If giving in to temptation has weakened you, Come, sit in this chair—reclaim the power of the Spirit.

In addition to the regular parish schedule, the sacrament of Reconciliation will be available at parishes throughout the Diocese of Calgary all the Wednesdays of Lent from 7:30 – 8:30pm. Come, sit in this chair—reclaim the power of the Spirit.

Action: Spend time this Lent reflecting on the gift of Baptism.
