Rejoice in the Lord always;
again I will say, Rejoice.
Let your gentleness* be known to everyone.
The Lord is near.
Do not worry about anything,
but in everything
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God,
which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
“Let your gentleness be known to all . . . God . . . will guard your hearts and minds”
I think I have to be tough. Don’t let anyone take advantage of me. Don’t make a mistake. Be shrewd, in control, rational, organized, independent. This epistle gives me permission to show the softer side — tolerance, patience, forbearance, gentleness. Relax. God will guard my heart and mind. When did I become so guarded? It is a matter of trust and faith.
